The other version of the book cover of this story... |
How would it feels like being abandoned by a person you trust the most that you give your hope to, to continue your life at the time when you’ve got no one to held on to? Just know it hurts. Truly and deeply. Sheila, a tough girl portrays by me experience this twice in her life. Abandoned by her mother on a highway at age four without any reason, abused by her drug-addict father between his prison stints, autistic, electively mute Sheila at age six broke through her silent rage to communicate, aided by her five-month relationship with special-education teacher Hayden. Hayden added colour to Sheila’s life, setting a tree to that poor little girl but she took away all that from Sheila and making it worst, Sheila oversees Hayden as a mother that she believe would never do such things to her.
Reality then tended to beat Sheila up, she no longer had anyone to help her through it. Sheila was having lived her life very much alone with the exception of the five months in Torey's classroom in Marysville. To think into this critically, is five months really enough to build a sturdy enough platform for this kid? All kids surely need constant care and attention; kids in healthy households living comparatively idyllic lives still clamor for more and more attention, love and care.
It was heartbreaking to learn that the happiness and love that Sheila discovered in Torey's classroom did not last after she left. However, the story of she survived despite her many hardships, even finding some of that happiness again when she and Torey were reunited, was fascinating and often tear-jerking.
The Tiger’s Child might sound somewhat dark because Sheila's life definitely wasn't light and breezy. However, it is surprisingly uplifting, because Sheila's story is one of perseverance. Each page leaves the reader wondering what will happen next and hoping for the best for both Sheila and Hayden.
A
quote from Sheila
To Torey with much Love~~
All the rest came
They tried to make me laugh
They played their games with me
Some games for fun and some for keeps
And they went away
Leaving me in the ruins of games
Not knowing which were for keeps and
Which were for fun and
Leaving me alone with the echoes of
Laughter that was not mine.
Then you came
With your funny way of being
Not quite human
And you made me cry
And you didn’t seem to care
if I did
You just said the games are over
And waited
Until all my tears turned into joy.
To Torey with much Love~~
All the rest came
They tried to make me laugh
They played their games with me
Some games for fun and some for keeps
And they went away
Leaving me in the ruins of games
Not knowing which were for keeps and
Which were for fun and
Leaving me alone with the echoes of
Laughter that was not mine.
Then you came
With your funny way of being
Not quite human
And you made me cry
And you didn’t seem to care
if I did
You just said the games are over
And waited
Until all my tears turned into joy.
